This is intended to be a homage to very many musicians I've loved since I started listening to music. My intention is to tell what I know about them, hoping that those people who like them too, will help me fill numerous gaps, which I may have in their careers and discographies. Sorry, but there are no MP3 audio files here at all, just info (and love for the musicians).

AND THEN...

In 1992, he came back to Ghana, building his own recording studios.

He released his solo album, Rhythms and sounds, in 1994.

KETE WARRIORS

This was a band fronted by Mac, with African musicians. They toured England in 2000, followed by another tour in 2001. I remember I saw it also billed as Mac Tontoh Project.

After that, he retired from music and started working promoting the culture in his country, as well as working for kids who want to learn music.

He passed away on August 17th, 2010 at hospital in Ghana. He suffered a stroke, also had diabetes, so he came back to London for treatment at the beginning of 2010; he went through 4 operations but returned to Ghana 2 months before his death. He was 69.

Kelly Harland (vocals)

BANDS:
  • Lazy Racer
  • Annie Rose And The Thrillers
  • Michael Tomlinson Band

BIOGRAPHY:

Great vocalist, she started singing very soon, coming from a musical family (her father was a jazz drummer).

LAZY RACER

Lazy Racer was a studio band, assembled by producer Glyn Johns. He mixed musicians from UK (Renwick, Markee) with American singers and songwriters (Kelly Harland, Bill Lamb, Tim Gorman). The original lineup included drummer Kenny Jones:

LAZY RACER #1
?
Bill Lamb
vocals, guitar
Tim Renwick
guitar, vocals
Dave Markee
bass
Tim Gorman
keyboards, vocals
Kenny Jones
drums

But Jones was soon replaced by Henry Spinetti.

This was the new lineup:

LAZY RACER #2
?
Bill Lamb
vocals, guitar
Tim Renwick
guitar, vocals
Dave Markee
bass
Tim Gorman
keyboards, vocals
Henry Spinetti
drums

They released their first, self-titled, album, Lazy Racer. This is what Billboard magazine said about it in June 1979:

´Lazy Racer is a half-American, half-British band that has the capabilities of featuring four vocalists and four writers. The tempo of the album is low-keyed yet the music is packed full of superior musicianship. Female vocalist Kelly Harland gives an extra dimension to the vocals. The writing throughout the album is superior and the delivery, thanks to the muscle of guitarist Bill Lamb, keyboardists Harland and Tim Gorman, drummer Henry Spinetti, bassist Dave Markee and lead guitarist Tim Renwick brings the package together. Love ballads comprise a good portion of the album with enough doses of rock in between. Best cuts: ´Keep on running away´, ´Every other day´, ´One heartache´.´

This was followed by a second one, Formula II, recorded with the same lineup, plus help from Pat Donaldson, and minus Dave Markee. There was filmed a video promo for one of the songs, ´Heart of hearts´.

After moderate success of both albums, the band finally split, without having played any live gigs.

AND THEN...

She released one single of her own, ´All I wanna do´ (1982, Epic), taken from a never released album (produced by Michael Omartian and Bob Johnston, and featuring big names such as guitarist Dean Parks, sax Tom Scott, Robbie Buchanan, Steve Lukather and other members of Toto).

Kelly also appears in several albums. She has made sessions for big names such as Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, David T Walker, or Jennifer Warnes. She has also sung live backing Ray Charles, Etta James and Michael Tomlinson (also appearing in 3 of his albums).

But in 1997, she resumed his solo career releasing the fantastic album American songs. It´s full of covers of great songs written by people such as James Taylor, George Gershwin, Paul Simon, Cole Porter, Randy Newman or Jimmy Webb, to name a few. Think of what Rod Stewart (or Linda Ronstadt) has done in the last years. An exquisite and intimate album, where Kelly´s backed by the solid rhythm of Chuck Deardorf on bass, and the magnificent piano playing of Ted Brancato (what a taste!).

This was followed by two more albums (as far as I know), Twelve times romance and Long ago and far away - Kelly Harland sings Jerome Kern, obviously devoted to the Jerome Kern songbook (Kelly had already covered Kern´s ´Bill´ in American songs).

The albums can be obtained at Kelly's own website at http://www.kellyharland.com.

Kelly Harland book

Kelly has also published a book in 2002 called A will of his own - Reflections on parenting a child with autism.

    BANDS:
    • Canned Heat [1966]
    • The Stone Poneys [1966-1968]
    • Bryndle
    • Rangers
    • Linda Ronstadt Band [1974-?]

    • Bryndle [1995-1997]
    • Bryndle [2002]
    • Bad Haggard
    • Karla Bonoff Band
    • Kenny Edwards Band

    BIOGRAPHY:

Kenny Edwards was born Kenneth Michael Edwards in February 10th, 1946, in Santa Monica, USA. A wonderful musician, he played bass, guitar, mandolin, as well as owner of fantastic vocal harmonies. I´ve enjoyed him in many albums, but my most dear to me are the Linda Ronstadt albums and concerts.

    the great Kenny Edwards

    CANNED HEAT

This was the second lineup of early Canned Heat, around 1966, when Kenny Edwards replaced their original guitarist Mike Perlowin:

    CANNED HEAT #2
    1966
    Bob Hite
    vocals
    Al Wilson
    guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    guitar
    Stu Brotman
    bass
    Ron Holmes
    drums

After a short time, Henry Vestine was added to the lineup.

Now the band had 3 guitarists. This was still 1966:

    CANNED HEAT #2
    1966
    Bob Hite
    vocals
    Al Wilson
    guitar
    Henry Vestine
    guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    guitar
    Stu Brotman
    bass
    Ron Holmes
    drums

But they shortened the lineup as Edwards soon left (also Holmes).

    THE STONE PONEYS

In 1965, Kenny Edwards and Bobby Kimmel join forces as a duo. This was the origin of The Stone Poneys.

    THE STONE PONEYS #1
    1965
    Bobby Kimmel
    vocals, guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar

Although their most famous move was soon asking a young female singer to join them, the supreme Linda Ronstadt.

    Now a trio:

    THE STONE PONEYS #2
    1965-1968
    Linda Ronstadt
    vocals
    Bobby Kimmel
    vocals, guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar
    Linda Ronstadt Bandê
    Bryndleê

They recorded 3 albums: Stone Poneys featuring Linda Ronstadt, followed by Evergreen vol 2, both in 1967, and Stone Poneys & friends vol 3 in 1968.

When they were to start a tour in 1968, the band parted ways, so Linda Ronstadt did the tour on her own.

    BRYNDLE

Bryndle was formed by four great composers and singers who joined forces in the late 60s:

    BRYNDLE #1
    ?
    êThe Stone Poneys
    Karla Bonoff
    vocals
    Wendy Waldman
    vocals
    Andrew Gold
    vocals, guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar, bass
    +
    Peter Bernstein
    guitar
    Dennis Wood
    drums
    Karla Bonoff Bandê
    Wendy Waldman Bandê
    Rangersê
    Rangersê
    Rangersê

They recorded an album, but it was never released (why?), so their only release was a single, ´Woke up this morning´. After that, they parted ways (although there was a resurrection many, many years later, as we´ll read below).

    RANGERS

After the breakup of Bryndle, Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards remained together, along with Peter Bernstein, forming Rangers:

    RANGERS #?
    ?
    êBryndle
    êBryndle
    êBryndle
    Andrew Gold
    vocals, guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar
    Peter Bernstein
    bass
    Gene Garfin
    drums

But they also parted ways before getting a recording contract.

After 5 years with Linda, Kenny Edwards started a different path, as a producer, also playing in many albums by his friends.

    BRYNDLE (again)

Sometime in the 90s, the members of Bryndle, who had been in contact (you just have to check their contributions to each other´s albums to notice that), thought of getting together again under the Bryndle monicker:

    BRYNDLE #2
    ?-Jul 96
    Karla Bonoff
    vocals
    Wendy Waldman
    vocals
    Andrew Gold
    vocals, guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar, bass
    +
    Bill Bonk
    bass
    Scott Babcock
    drums

And, this time, they released their debut album in 1995, twenty five years after their formation.

    Bill Bonk left May 1996.

Their new bassist was Matt Cartsonis, in May 1996:

    BRYNDLE #3
    May 96-Jul 96
    Karla Bonoff
    vocals, keyboards
    Wendy Waldman
    vocals, guitar
    Andrew Gold
    vocals, guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar, bass
    +
    Matt Cartsonis
    bass
    Scott Babcock
    drums

But in July 1996, Andrew Gold leaves the band.

Bryndle replaces Andrew Gold with two new members:

    BRYNDLE #4
    Jul 96-1997
    Karla Bonoff
    vocals
    Wendy Waldman
    vocals
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar, bass
    +
    Matt Cartsonis
    bass
    Scott Babcock
    drums

But they split again in the summer of 1997.

In 2002, Bryndle reforms again for a few concerts:

    BRYNDLE #5
    2002
    Karla Bonoff
    vocals
    Wendy Waldman
    vocals
    Andrew Gold
    vocals, guitar
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar, bass

They also released a live album from those concerts.

    BAD HAGGARD

This was a project by Kenny Edwards and Wendy Waldman:

    BAD HAGGARD #?
    ?
    Kenny Edwards
    vocals, guitar
    Wendy Waldman
    vocals
+ maybe others, unknown to me

Sorry, but don´t have any details about the period when this happened and if there were more musicians involved. Can someone help, please?
